Day 2 in DC

It is now 11:40 at night and we are pooped so this is going to be short. We will write more later. We hired a shuttle to take us to the White House. The tulips were beautiful, the dude in the street protesting 80 years old and psycho, and the sniper on the roof was cool. Sarah stuck her hand through the fence and stole Obama's grass.

Then we went to Arlington Cemetery. It was cool how all of the tombstones were alike and all in a row. You could see JFK's flame on his grave at night from across the river. Anne Marie's favorite part of the day was the Changing of the Guard. Trace liked how they clicked their feet together before they turned. We also visited Robert E. Lee's house.

Then we stopped for lunch at the mall and went on to Mount Vernon. Everyone really liked the blacksmith shop. The blacksmith was making a hammer and talked to us about how he made it. The rooms in the house was really colorful because color showed that you were really wealthy. We saw the George Washington's bedroom that he died in. He died from strep throat. At the museum we got to see George Washington's dentures.

We went to Union Station after that and barely had time to grab a snack before our Monuments by Moonlight tour. We really like the Lincoln Memorial and the Vietnam Memorial. We really like the Iwo Jima monument, too.

The teacher is getting delerious now and has probably mispelled lots of words so we are signing off and will write again when we are awake.

Day One in DC

First we got up early this morning and ate breakfast. The food was fabulous! The chefs would make an omelet just for you. Then we walked to the Foggy Bottom Metro. It was really scary at first but it was awesome! It was really fast and very crowded. Some of us were scared we would fall in the track and get smoked. We were also afraid of getting closed in the doors. By the end of the day, we were more comfortable. BUT, one of the escalators was broken and we had to CLIMB up about 900 steps. Ms. Benita almost passed out. NOTE FROM TEACHER: ME TOO!!!

Our first stop was Senator David Vitter's office. His aid, Palmer, took us on the underground train that the legislators use to get to the Capitol. When we got to the Capitol, it was huge, amazing, and beautiful! Our favorite parts were: the huge chandelier from a garage sale, the dome with the star in the middle that George Washington was supposed to be buried under. Palmer told us to rub our feet on it for good luck. The best part of the day was getting to sit in the gallery during a debate between 2 senators. One was a Democrat and one was a Republican. They were arguing about Planned Parenthood and abortion. We thought the Republican definitely won the debate. Then Palmer took us back to meet Sen. Vitter and we took a picture with him.

Then we went to the Rayburn Building for lunch. We really don't know why we have to go through security just to eat lunch. We are already tired of security. The food was really good though.

Then we took pictures in front of the Capitol and played elbow tag on the front lawn. We found a lost kid and returned him to his mommy. Then we took a picture of us laying in grass spelling out LP2DC3. It was awesome.

Our next stop was the Air and Space Museum. We loved seeing the Wright Brothers plane. The interactive flight simulators were awesome. Logan almost made Carlie throw up. We really like going in different parts of airplanes and shuttles. We saw all kinds of different space ships. The hands on part of the museum was really cool. You could stand on scales and see what you weighed on different plants. You could sit in a chair and move it by holding a spinning wheel.

Then we walked along the mall until we got to a carousel and refresment stand. The girls rode the teacups and the boys rode horses. We found the last blooming cherry blossom tree and took a picture with it. Then we walked to the Washington Monument. It was so cool and tall. We really liked rolling down the hill in front of it. Did you know that the top of the monument is a different color because they had to stop building it during the Civil War.

We jumped back on the subway to Dupont Circle and ate at Baja Mexican Grill. Anne Marie knocked Sadie's whole plate of  food on the floor and she had been waiting on it a long time. Then we danced on the sidewalk to a guy singing Michael Jackson. Ms Suzanne would be proud. Taylor was the only boy who danced. His robot was pretty good. Speaking of robots, we saw one when we got off at Union Station. It was a coffee robot dude thing. Then we loaded up on hot Krispy Kreme doughnuts and walked back to hotel. Now we are going swimming!!!

NOTE FROM TEACHER: We changed our schedule because it is going to storm on Saturday. We will go to Arlington, Mount Vernon, and the White House tomorrow. Speaking for the chaperones.....we are  POOPED!!!

WE MADE IT TO DC!!!

As we are writing this, we are dripping wet because we just got out of the hotel pool. Our trip has been wonderful. The worst thing that has happened is that Logan puked in the van on the way to our hotel. Gross. Our favorite part of the day was flying in the plane. Taking off and landing were great. Landing felt like you were floating in your seat.

The hotel is very nice and awesome. This fish in the Koi pond are like 9 feet long. The clear elevators, the fish, waterfalls, and pool awesome. We made a lot of new friends in the pool. One guy was from California. (NOTE FROM TEACHER: Kinda funny how everyone mysteriously exited the pool as soon as our kids jumped in. )

Tomorrow we are going to the Capitol and to meet Senator David Vitter. We are also going to the Air and Space Museum. The weather is going to be great.

We can't wait until tomorrow! Mrs. Stephanie will post our pics from today later on tonight.

NOTE FROM TEACHER: Logan, Trace, and Clay held hands during take-off. One of them cried out,  "I love you, Momma!".

Possible government shutdown affects local students - KNOE 8 News; KNOE-TV; KNOE.com |

Our trip is on hold until 12 pm tonight. We are waiting for Congress to make a decision about the budget. As many of you are aware, the national parks and museums will be affected by a government closure. We are in prayer that our leaders make the RIGHT decisions, and if that takes more time, so be it. We will postpone our trip. Our prayers are also with the close to 1 million government employees who will not receive paychecks during this time should a government shut down occur.

We were so excited to be interviewed by KNOE news yesterday. Let us know what you think of it!
